Born on the 17th of October, 1981, Holly Holm is an American mixed martial artist and former boxer and kickboxer who became famous for being the first person to win championships in both boxing and mixed martial arts, and for inflicting on UFC Champion Ronda Rousey her first loss. She attended Manzano High School where her love for wrestling started to emerge, but her parents, Roger and Tammy discouraged the sport so Holm settled for kickboxing instead. During one of her aerobics classes, her coach Mike Winkeljohn discovered her potential and began training her.
At the age of 20, in 2001 Holm won her first amateur fight in kickboxing in the IKF USA National Amateur Championship Tournament. The following year she became a professional boxer, and later that year became a professional kickboxer as well.
