Howard Lederer was born on 30th October 1964, in Concord, New Hampshire, USA, and is a professional poker player and author, best known through his nickname “The Professor”, and for winning two World Series of Poker bracelets, and also two World Poker Tour titles. He is also a founder and board member of Tiltware LLC, the company that established Full Tilt Poker in 2004. Lederer’s career started in 1986.

Howard Lederer grew up in New Hampshire with his sisters Annie Duke and Katy Lederer, and started playing cards from an early age before being introduced to chess, in which he became very interested, so he began playing it competitively. After finishing high school, he moved to New York, where he started participating in live poker games as a member of the Mayfair Club.

Lederer began tutoring his sister Annie who played poker in Montana at the time, and tried to qualify for the World Series of Poker in 1986 but didn’t succeed.

However, Howard qualified the following year, made it to the final table, and won $10,000 after finishing fifth. In 1993, he moved to Las Vegas to focus on his pro- poker career, and between 1993 and 1999, he made it to eight final tables at WSOP events. Later, Howard won his first WSOP bracelet (2000) at a $5,000 limit Omaha Hi/Lo tournament, and year later he won his second bracelet, this time in a $5,000 no limit Deuce to Seven tournament.
