Although born in the state of New York, Jamie spent his childhood in Florida and attended Evans High School in Orlando. After matriculation, Jamie enrolled at Florida State University, where he started playing football. During his stint, Jamie started every single game for the University and was named to every team in 1985, marking his successful career at Florida State.
Although he was one of the best players at his university, Jamie ended undrafted in the 1986 NFL Draft. Nevertheless, he signed a contract with the Atlanta Falcons; in his rookie season, Jamie played in 14 games – four of which were starts – and recorded a single fumble recovery. He stayed in Atlanta until 1994, and starting in 1989 he became a standard center for the Falcons playing in every single game until the end of his contract. However, the Falcons decided not to extend their collaboration with Jamie, and as a result, he signed a one-year contract with the Green Bay Packers, which only increased his net worth. He played in only six games for the Packers that season, and for 1995 season he joined the Arizona Cardinals, also on a one-year contract. He retired after the 1995 season, in which he played eight times for the Cardinals.
Years after retirement, Jamie became a studio analyst for the NFL Network, appearing on their NFL GameDay Scoreboard and NFL Total Access, next to Tom Waddle, and Paul Burmeister.
Most recently, Jamie started the Ochocinco and Dukes Podcast on iTunes with retired wide receiver Chad Johnson.
Regarding his personal life, Jamie is married to Angela; the couple has two children together and resides in Braselton, Georgia.
Jamie is also known for his philanthropic activities; back in 2011 he and his wife started the Runway Red Celebrity Kids Fashion Show, through which they raise money for children infected with HIV/AIDS. Also, he has worked with Crosby Media Production and Braxton Cosby to create workout videos. Furthermore, he and his wife started the The Put Up Your Dukes Foundation. James is also looking for other NFL players that could help him with a study to treat depression.
Jamie has had health problems in the past, since in 2009 he underwent a gastric band procedure to help lose weight.
