To begin with, before deciding to pursue an acting career Jane Leeves tried modelling and ballet dancing. However, it was acting which attracted her the most. Being 21 years old, she moved to New York with a view to starting a career there , and debuted on television having a small role in the film “Nice to See You” (1981). Later, she had small roles in feature films “Monty Python’s The Meaning of Life” (1983) and “The Hunger” (1983). Then, Jane appeared in the series “The Benny Hill Show” (1983–1985), had a role in the main cast of the series “Throb” (1986–1988), sitcoms “Murphy Brown” (1989–1993) and “Seinfeld” (1992–1998). However, “Frasier” created by David Angell, Peter Casey and David Lee, and also starring Kelsey Grammer is the stand-out, praised by critics with high ratings, and for which Leeves received more than 20 nominations. In addition to this, she won a Screen Actors Guild Award together with the ensemble in the series and Viewers for Quality Television Award as the Best Supporting Actress in a Quality Comedy Series. Meanwhile, Jane episodically appeared in the series “Caroline in the City” (1995), voiced “Hercules: The Animated Series” (1998) and was acting in the feature films “Music of the Heart” (1999) directed by Wes Craven and “The Event” (2003) directed by Thom Fitzgerald. Then Leeves showed up in a comedy film “National Lampoon Presents Endless Bummer” (2009) directed by Sam Pillsbury. She appeared in several episodes of the legendary series “Desperate Housewives” (2010). At the same time she worked as a producer but decided that it would be better to abandon this endeavour.

Since 2010, Leeves has starred in the main cast of the sitcom “Hot in Cleveland” (2010–present) created by Suzanne Martin, in which she appears in the role of the never married beautician Rejoyla Scroggs. The series has also received positive reviews from critics and received several nominations as the Favorite Cable TV Comedy by People’s Choice Awards.
