To begin with, Jeffrey Epstein was raised in Brooklyn in a Jewish household. He was educated at Lafayette High School, and then studied mathematics at New York University although he did not finish his studies, but went to work as a mathematics teacher, before he started in as a day trader at the investment bank Bear Stearns in 1976, having been introduced by the father of a pupil. In 1982, his own asset management firm “J. Epstein & Co” was launched which specialized in managing the assets of billionaires. His close business partner was the textile tycoon Leslie Wexner. Undoubtedly, “J. Epstein & Co” has been the major source of Jeffrey Epstein’s net worth over the last 30 years.

Epstein subsequently re-named his firm as The Financial Trust Company in 1996, simultaneously moving its headquarters to the US Virgin Islands, no doubt for taxation minimisation reasons.

Epstein has also been a member of the Trilateral Commission and the Council on Foreign Relations.

Epstein is also known for his philanthropic actions. He founded the Jeffrey Epstein VI Foundation in 2000; one of the biggest donations Jeffrey made was a $30 million gift to Harvard University. In addition to this, the fund has supported many individual scientists all over the world, to give examples Gregory Benford, Kip Thorne, Ben Goertzel, George Church, Lee Smolin, Eric Lander, Stephen Hawking and many others.

In 2006, Jeffrey Epstein was accused for paying for sex with underage women. After he made a deal with the prosecutors, he was convicted in 2008 of inciting paid sex with a 14 – year – old girl and sentenced to 18 months in prison, of which he served 13 months. After the case was made public many charity recipients returned their donations including Palm Beach Police Department, Bill Richardson and Eliot Spitzer. However, the University of Harvard was not on the list of those who returned funding. It is worth saying, that Epstein is officially registered as a sex offender after his conviction.

Finally, in the personal life of financier mogul, he has never married, and has no known children. No relationship with a girl or woman has been made public.
