Jeffrey was born into a family of wealth, with his grandfather Philip Smith founding General Cinema, a chain of movie theaters. Throughout the years General Cinema became stronger and was starting partnerships with various corporations such as Pepsi. The increasing profit from the movie chains would also slowly but surely increase the net worth of the family overall. Jeffrey studied at and graduated from Clark University and later got his master’s degree from Boston University studying psychology. After his master’s he would attend Brandels University and would then get his PhD in Social Policy.

After he graduated, he would become an assistant professor at Boston University, but in 1983 left the academe to become part of General Cinema. There he worked as an advisor as well as a liaison between the corporation and Hollywood. In 1985, he would then create his own production company Chestnut Hill Productions, which was responsible for a few films and series. Some of these include “I Love You to Death”, “Blind Side”, “V.I. Warshawski”, and the documentary “Inside Job”, which would become the most prominent, earning an Academy Award for the best documentary film. Aside from all these films and television shows, the company also produced many commercials.

Jeffrey was a big fan of Boston sports teams and the entire family was said to be fans of the New England Patriots. In 1993, Lurie bid for ownership of the team, but dropped out after the bidding reached $150 million. Later on, he would become a potential investor to the Los Angeles Rams and the New York Giants. Eventually, with agreement from his uncle, the owner of General Cinema, he would buy the Philadelphia Eagles for $195 million. He would borrow $190 million in order to make the purchase and it would become one of his best purchases, eventually skyrocketing his net worth. Since becoming the owner of the Eagles, he’s been given the title “Owner of the Year” and he’s also responsible for building the Lincoln Financial Field Football Stadium. He’s very active on football committees and is also known as the winningest owner in the franchise’s history.

For his personal life, Jeffrey was married to former actress Christina Weiss during 1992. They have two children but 10 years later would divorce. He then married Tina Lai in 2013.
