Jerome Bettis was raised on the streets of Detroit, as the third and the youngest child of Johnnie Bettis and Gladys Elizabeth. At very young age, he showed interests in sports – bowling and football, but he didn’t start playing the latter until he graduated. Bettis attended the elementary school in his hometown, and later he started attending Mackenzie High School. During studies, he started playing football and soon after, as a senior, he won two awards – The Top Player in the State, when he was named by the Detroit Free Press, and the Gatorade Circle of Champions Player of the Year Award. After graduation, he was studying at the University Of Notre Dame, where his professional career of football player began, so he decided to quit education and to pursue career.

His first earnings came from selling cocaine with his older brother Jerome`, but his professional career began in 1993 when he decided to enter the NFL Draft that year. He was selected as 10th pick overall, by the Los Angeles Rams. Three months after the draft, Jerome signed his first professional contract in worth of $4.625 million, in addition to a signing bonus of $2 million, increasing his net worth by a large margin. In his first season, Jerome proved to be a great player, winning the NFL Offensive Rookie of the Year award, and he was also selected for the Pro-Bowl game. His second season wasn`t any different than his first, with him making over 1000 yards, and also being selected for the Pro-Bowl game.

In 1995 the Rams moved to St Louis, and Rich Brooks was appointed as coach; soon Jerome got into an argument with him, which eventually resulted in a trade to Pittsburgh Steelers in 1996.

With the Steelers, Jerome continued to perform excellently in games, finishing first six seasons running with more than 1000 yards. He also continued to feature in the Pro Bowl Games, in 1996, 1997 and in 2001. Furthermore, he was named as the Steelers` MVP three times, in 1996, 1997, and 2001. However, in 2005, Jerome won his first and only NFL Championship in a victory over Seattle SeaHawks, a most important achievement for an American Football player..

During his time at Pittsburgh, Betis became one of the greatest players in the franchise`s history, making it into the Steelers All Time Team, and also being inducted into the Pittsburgh Steelers Hall of Fame in 2012. Betis was also inducted into the NFL Football Hall Of Fame in 2015.

He retired after the 2005-2006 season, and soon found a job as a commentator for the NBC`s “Football Night In America”, commentating games throughout the 2007 and 2008 seasons, which also added to his net worth.

He also opened up a restaurant “Jerome Bettis’ Grille 36”, helping him to even further his net worth. Further, he is currently the star of “The Jerome Bettis Show” on WXPI-TV Pittsburgh.

If to talk about his personal life, Jerome Bettis married long-time girlfriend Tramena Boykin in July of 2006; they have two children and currently reside in Roswell, Georgia, and have a house in Pittsburgh as well. Bettis founded the Jerome Bettis Bus Stops Here Foundation, which works and helps children diagnosed with asthma. In free time, he is a big supporter of Barack Obama’s campaigns.
