Jerry Fulton Cantrell Jr. was born on 18 March 1966, in Tacoma, Washington, USA. He is a musician, best known as the lead vocalist, guitarist and songwriter for the rock band Alice in Chains. He also has a solo career, having released several albums, and all his efforts have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is Jerry Cantrell? As of mid-2016, sources estimate a net worth that is at $30 million, mostly earned through a successful career in the music industry. He helped Alice in Chains release five studio albums and also released two solo albums of his own. He’s also collaborated with other films and other artists. All of these have ensured the position of his wealth.
Jerry Cantrell Net Worth $30 Million Dollars
Growing up, Jerry was raised listening to country music, but he eventually became interested in rock when he was a teen, and bought his first guitar, but didn’t start seriously learning it until he was 17 years old. Prior to that, he was a member of his high school choir which won a lot of competitions; he became the choir president, and was often invited to basketball games and competitions. During this time, he developed an interest in darker tones such as Gregorian Chants. In the 1980s, he formed the band Diamond Lie which attracted a bit of attention locally, becoming Alice ‘N Chainz, and was then renamed to Alice in Chains.
As a part of Alice in Chains, Jerry served as the lead guitarist and co-vocalist of the band. They would create three studio albums, with a two being certified gold and boosting both their popularity and net worth. In the late 1990s however, the band would go on hiatus, and in 2002 the band’s lead singer Layne Staley would pass away. In 2005, they reformed with the surviving members and performed in concerts with various lead vocalists. In 2009, they released their first record since the death of Layne, entitled “Black Gives Way to Blue” which showcased Jerry as the vocalist. They toured to support the album, and then released their fifth album in 2013 entitled “The Devil Put Dinosaurs Here”.
During their hiatus, Cantrell started a solo career which included many collaborations. He wrote and recorded a song which was used on “The Cable Guy” soundtrack in 1996, which became very popular and he then went on to record a solo album, released in 1998 entitled “Boggy Depot”. Alice in Chains members made appearances on the album, and the song “Cut You In” would become very popular.
Jerry then started to work on a new album, but had trouble finding a new label; he was eventually able to release his second album entitled “Degradation Trip” in 2002, which featured various musicians including Robert Trujillo and Mike Bordin. It was released by Roadrunner Records and was dedicated to Layne Staley who had just passed away at the time of the release. The album would attract critical acclaim, and included songs that became featured in the “Spider-Man” soundtrack. Jerry started working on a third album in 2006 but hasn’t released it yet, which may be due to the fact that Alice in Chains became active again.
For his personal life, there is no public information on his private life, but it is known that he co-owns a rock bar called “Dead Man’s Hand”. He was a close friend of Andrew Wood who died in 1990, and dedicated the song “Would?” and the album “Facelift” to him. His father was a veteran of the Vietnam War, and Cantrell wrote “Rooster” as a tribute to him.

There's this dark, sarcastic humor that's there if you know the band ['Alice in Chains']. A lot of people don't of course, and that's completely fine. It's kind of comforting to have this separate public persona from the harsh lyrical content we're known for. Definitely there's not a lot of fluff in what we do.

We're in an interesting place right now. You don't expect to get to old age when you're a young musician, especially with the whole music and reality of live fast, die young, sex, drugs and rock 'n' roll. I mean, I'm in it until I blow up, don't get me wrong. It's pretty cool to stick around. I'm grateful to have made it through, and not ashamed of owning everything I did, good and bad.
