Jerry attended the Professional Children’s School, and afterwards went to New York University to study film and screenwriting. While at the university he was a fencer in the school’s fencing team, before graduating in 1995.

For his acting career however, Jerry was already very familiar with films ever since he was young. He did commercial work and his first feature film would be Stephen King’s “Stand By Me”. O’Connell continued to do commercials for products such as Frosted Flakes, and then landed a role in the science fiction series “My Secret Identity”. He was also in the film “Calendar Girl” and the sitcom “Camp Wilder” with Hilary Swank. In 1992, Jerry passed an audition for the series “Sliders” which ran for three seasons on Fox, and later its final two seasons on the Syfy Channel. During the series’ fourth season, he was the director and writer for several episodes, which boosted his net worth.

Jerry would then continue his work, starring in various films such as “Jerry Maguire”, “Mission to Mars”, “Tomcats” and “Scream 2”. His first try at screenwriting was “First Daughter”, a film which starred Michael Keaton and Katie Holmes, and he was an executive producer for the film. Afterwards, he became a part of the series “Crossing Jordan” which ran from 2001 to 2007, and he also appeared in a few episodes of “Ugly Betty” and “Las Vegas”.

O’Connel would also try his hand at voice acting and animation, first lending his voice to “Justice League Unlimited”, and later in “Superman/Shazam!: The Return of Black Adam”, which would be the start of his long record voicing for DC related animation. Jerry then started to do a bit of parody work such as Tom Cruise on scientology, and “Young Hilary Clinton”. He then appeared in the film “Obsessed” and later “Piranha 3D”.

Jerry has also appeared in Broadway productions such as “Seminar”, “Mockingbird Lane” and “We Are Men”. One of his latest performances was in 2015, entitled “Living On Love”.

For his personal life, it is known that Jerry had a relationship with Giuliana Rancic which lasted for a year. He then met and later married actress Rebecca Romjin and they have twin daughters. It is also known that O’Connel attended Southwestern Law School in 2009, but dropped out to continue his career as an actor.
