Regarding his education, Jim attended the Wylie E. Groves High School, and following his matriculation, Jim enrolled at Yale University from which he graduated with a degree in political science and economics in 1980.

Jim had no interest in cotinuing the family’s dry-cleaning business, so his professional career began in 1980 soon after he finished his education, working for several firms in banking and investments, in turn as an analyst; his first employment was at Blyth Eastman Webber, and then he found engagement at Gilford Securities. Little by little his name became more known in the investment industry, and he was appointed as an analyst and then the Vice President at the Deutsche Bank Capital Corp.

However, his ambitions were much greater, and he started his own firm, Kynikos Associates, through which he developed his way of investing. As his company grew, so has his net worth, and has been in constant rise since the company`s inception in 1985.
To speak further of his accomplishments, Jim was a short seller of Enron, which was a corporation that owned numerous companies in industries such as energy, commodities and services. Jim is passing on his expertise, as he works as a lecturer in finance at the Yale University School of Management, which apart from returning something to his alma mater and the students of today, also adds to his net worth.

Aside from his hands-on operations in conducting investments, and lecturing, Jim is currently president of the board of The Browning School, and is a trustee of The New-York Historical Society as well.

Regarding his personal life, little is known about Jim Chanos in the media; however, according to sources, he was married to Amy until their divorce in 2006, and they have four children.
