Of Punjab ancestry and Jat Sikh ethnicity, Jinder is the nephew of legendary wrestler Gama Singh. Even before finishing his education, Jinder was involved in wrestling, but continued on obtaining a business degree in communications and culture from the University of Calgary.

In 2002 he joined Martial Arts Fitness Center in his hometown, and started his professional training under the guidance of Rick Bognar. The same year, Jinder made his professional debut in Premier Martial Arts Wrestling, under the name Raj Dhesi, and after a while joined wrestlers Gerry Morrow and Bad News Allen in a revived Stampede Wrestling, joined also by Natalya, Viktor and Tyson Kidd. He continued to develop his skills by competing in the Stampede and Prairie Wrestling Alliance, winning the PWA Canadian Tag Team Championship with his cousin Gama Singh Jr. During his time in PWA, Jinder also held the PWA Heavyweight Champion belt from 2008 until 2010, when he decided to quit the promotion and try to join World Wrestling Entertainment.

In 2010 he signed a contract with WWE, and was sent to development promotion Florida Championship Wrestling, where he received his new identity of Jinder Mahal. Unfortunately in addition to feuds with various wrestlers, including Khali, Ted DiBiase, Randy Orton and others, he didn’t have much success, and in June 2014 he was released from his contract. During his stint, he had a notable role in the 3MB team, comprised of Drew McIntyre, Heath Slater and himself.

For the next two years, Jinder wrestled in several independent promotions, including Reality of Wrestling (ROW), All Star Wrestling (ASW) and World Wrestling Council (WWC), managing to win the ASW Tag Team Championship, teaming up again with his cousin Gama Singh Jr.

Thanks to his success, Jinder re-signed with WWE, assuming his identity and slowly starting to build a name for himself. He had several important wins, including over Jack Swagger and Darren Young, and then started a tag team with Bulgarian wrestler Rusev. Jinder subsequently earned a chance to win the WWE Championship; at Backlash he faced Randy Orton and with the help of The Singh Brothers (Samir and Sunil Singh), Jinder won the Championship, becoming the first wrestler of Indian ancestry to achieve such a thing. However, After 170 days, Jinder lost his title to AJ Styles, in a match held in Manchester, England.

Since losing his title, Jinder aspired to become the new US Champion, however, he lost to Bobby Roode.

When it comes to his personal life, Jinder tends to keep his most intimate details, including marital status and number of children, hidden from the public eye, therefore, no reliable information is available about this rising WWE star.
