Joakim Noah was raised with his sister by his father, Yannick Noah, who is a singer and former No. 3 professional tennis player who won the French Open in 1983, and his mother, Cecilia Rodhe, who was Miss Sweden in 1978. He is a grandson of Zacharie Noah, a professional soccer player who was the winner of the 1961 Coupe de France. Thanks to his ancestry, Noah has citizenships of USA, France and Sweden. When he was three years old, his family moved to Paris, France, and lived there until 1998, when they returned to New York City.
While he was in high school, Noah excelled in basketball and played for the United Nations International School, Lawrenceville School and Poly Prep Country Day School. After matriculation, he received a scholarship to attend the University of Florida, where he continued to play basketball for the Gators college teams.
