Born in North London, England, Alwyn is the son of a Elizabeth Alwyn, a psychotherapist, and Richard Alwyn, a documentary filmmaker, and has two other siblings. He spent most of his time growing up in the Crouch End/Tufnell Park area in London, and has always had a passion for acting. He attended the City of London School, and joined the National Youth Theatre in his late teens to hone his passion for acting.
Alwyn later on studied at the University of Bristol taking up a degree in English literature and drama. While at the University, he also joined two student productions at the Edinburgh Fringe Festival, before he graduated in 2012. He also attended the Royal Central School of Speech and Drama, and subsequently completed a BA in acting.
Right after graduation, in 2016 Alwyn was able to nab the lead role in Ang Lee’s film “Billy Lynn’s Long Halftime Walk,” which was based on Ben Fountain’s novel about a 19-year old army specialist who saved his sergeant and became an instant celebrity, joining a victory tour back home. Although the film achieved minor success, it still helped his career and also established his net worth.
In 2017, Alwyn was then cast in the film “The Sense of an Ending”, another adaptation of the book of the same title by Julian Barnes.
