Joey Tempest Net Worth $4 million
Joey learned to play the guitar and piano at a young age, and grew up listening to bands such as Led Zeppelin and Thin Lizzy. While in his teens, he performed with various bands, singing while playing either bass or rhythm guitar.
In 1979, he formed a band called Force, with members such as Peter Olsson, Tony Reno, and John Norum. They were able to build a reputation quickly in Sweden, and three years later changed their name to Europe, winning the music competition Rock-SM. They were able to get a record deal with Hot Records, and began releasing albums in 1983. The band released five albums with Joey as the front man of the band until 1991. He originally played keyboard during the first two albums of Europe, and then they had keyboardist Mic Michaeli join the band. The duo would write the song “Carrie”, and Michaeli would help Tempest even during his solo career. During the end of Europe’s run, Tempest help create a lot of international hits including “The Final Countdown” which went on to sell eight million copies. They also played the song at the 1988 Summer Olympics in Seoul, and the song would become a regular theme for mobile phones. Europe released two more albums before their final concert in 1992.
In 1996, Tempest made his solo debut with the album called “A Place to Call Home”; it would become very successful internationally, and went on to certify platinum in Sweden. He then toured as a solo artist, being nominated for a “Best Swedish Artist” award. Some of his hits include “We Come Alive” and “Don’t Go Changing On Me”. The following year, he released “Azalea Place” and all of the songs on the album were written by Joey; the song called “The Match” became one of the most played songs on Swedish radio. In 2002, he released a third album entitled “Joey Tempest” and then mentioned in an interview that he wrote “Dreamless” and “Magnificent” as inspired by living in tough cities such as London.
In 2004 Europe reunited, and released a comeback album called “Start from the Dark”. Since then they’ve continued releasing albums, such as “Secret Society”, “Last Look at Eden”, “Bag of Bones”, and “War of Kings” which was released in 2015.
For his personal life, it is known that Joey married Lisa Worthington in 2000, and they have two sons; they currently reside in London. Joey has said that he doesn’t have any social media pages apart from their band’s official page.
Our show in Detroit ended up being one of those small, sweaty rock gigs that had something extra. The place was smaller; the crowd was up close and personal. In these circumstances, it's not about the light show, it's not about the big sound system, it's about raw, intimate communication, and you get carried away to some other place where nothing else seem to matter, all the outside thoughts and worries you might have simply disappears. That's how I want music and concerts to be like.
