John Edward Melendez was born on 4 October 1965, in Massapequa, New York State USA, of Danish and Puerto Rican descent. John is a radio personality and television writer, best known for being called “Stuttering John”. He was a regular personality in “The Howard Stern Show” and conducted interviews with various celebrities on the red carpet. All of his endeavors have helped put his net worth to where it is today.
How rich is John Melendez? As of mid-2016, sources inform us of a net worth that is at $3 million, mostly earned through radio broadcasting and writing; he’s been featured on popular television and radio shows in the US, including working on a lot of late night shows and has done some voice work too. All of these have ensured the position of his wealth.
John Melendez Net Worth $3 million
When he was in second grade, he began to develop a stutter because of his parents arguing and his father mistreating him psychologically; when he attended Plainedge High School where he experienced bullying because of the stutter. In 1988, he went to New York University, and met Mitch Fatel who would recommend him to “The Howard Stern Show”. With his friend’s recommendation, he was given the job even without being interviewed.
Melendez was mainly used in “The Howard Stern Show” to stir up the show’s guests when he answered calls on air. He also confronted celebrities at red carpet events and asked them upfront questions that would rile up the celebrity, or make them answer embarrassingly.
When he started to gain a bit more popularity, he would disguise himself so that celebrities wouldn’t figure him out immediately. His questions were amplified by the fact that he didn’t seem to know much about the celebrity in question which would make the questions a lot more insensitive – celebrities would react either negatively or humorously towards the questions. Due to his increasing popularity, he was offered roles in stage productions and films including “Tony ‘n’Tina’s Wedding”. He also made appearances in “Airheads”, “Dude, Where’s My Car”, and “Baywatch Nights”. He was a guest in “The Tonight Show” and “I’m a Celebrity – Get Me Out of Here!” He also became a part of the radio show WXRK on which he played music requests. While “The Howard Stern Show” was on a break, Jay Leno offered Melendez an announcer position on “The Tonight Show”, which started a rift between Stern and Leno.
Melendez took over Edd Hall’s position in “The Tonight Show”, and was given a significant salary boost which increased his net worth. He would also work in the show when it was succeeded by Conan O’Brien in 2009. In an interview, Melendez mentioned that one of the things that helped him decide to leave “The Howard Stern Show” was the fact that he wasn’t getting paid much, even after all the popularity the show had acquired. After Leno returned to the show, Melendez also become a part of the writing department and would make fewer appearances, but mostly in comedy sketches. He stayed with the show until Leno ended his run in 2014. John then became the executive producer and contributor to “The Stephanie Miller Show”.
For his personal life, it is known that Melendez married Suzanna Keller in 1997, and they had three children. They separated in 2011 and divorced the following year.
