Have you ever wondered how rich John Singleton is? According to sources, it is estimated that John Singleton’s net worth is $50 million, most of which he has earned from the big success of some of his first movie realizations. Other than that, his cooperation with other celebrities such as Michael Jackson, Samuel L. Jackson and Busta Rhymes among others, helped add to his wealth.
John Singleton Net Worth $50 Million
Singleton was raised in Los Angeles by his single mother, a childhood often depicted in his films. After attending Pasadena City College, he enrolled in USC School of Cinematic Arts Film Writing Program, designed to encourage writers in their own visions and subsequently incorporate students directly into the Hollywood system as proficient writer/directors, from where he graduated in 1990. He also became a member of the Kappa Alpha Psi fraternity.
His ability to direct was at first manifested in music videos, which eventually resulted in his collaboration with Michael Jackson and his “Remember The Time” video. No doubt this added to his net worth, and gained him some publicity.
John`s first expression as an author of his visions was projected in his debut film “Boyz N The Hood” (1991), an inner city drama depicting life in South Central Los Angeles. Singleton being the first African-American and youngest person to be nominated for and win an Academy Award for Best Original Screenplay and Best Director. Therefore, the film being a big success, greatly increased Singleton’s net worth. In the following years, Singleton released two more films on a similar social topic: “Poetic Justice”(1993) and “Higher Learning”(1995) which also received mainly positive reviews. Latter work includes equally successful achievements like “Rosewood” (1997), “Shaft”(2000) and “Baby Boy” (2001).
Other significant achievements include his entrance into the 47th Berlin International Film Festival with the film “Rosewood” (1997), a historical drama about racial violence. Since then, John has dedicated his work mostly to directing action films such as “2 Fast 2 Furious” and “Four Brothers”, which resulted in divided opinions and critiques. In 2005 he financed Craig Brewer’s independent film “Hustle And Flow”, after it was obvious that no other sponsors were interested, which also benefited his net worth. For a short while in 2013 it was announced that Singleton would be the director of Tupac biography film, but after having certain disagreements with the Morgan Creek Productions, he stepped down. His latest venture in the entertainment industry includes the direction of film “Snowfall” which is scheduled for a release in 2015.
In his personal life John has a daughter, and a son with his ex-companion Tosha Lewis. He also has a daughter from his marriage to Ghanaian actress Akosua Gyamama Busia that lasted from October 1996 until June 1997. John has a daughter, Cleopatra Singleton, who was born in 1999.
Singleton is an outspoken critic of Hollywood society, and claims that the powers-that-be are refusing to encourage African-Americans in directing black-themed films that tell their stories.
