Jonny attended George Washington High School and after matriculating, went to the Virginia Polytechnic Institute. After he graduated he moved around, first to Washington DC., then to Portland, before finally settling in Los Angeles, California.

Fairplay started a professional wrestling career in 1998 with his own promotion New Dimension Wrestling, serving as commentator and promoter of the show. He also hosted his own radio talk show, having guest commentators consisting of various wrestlers. He then served as a personal assistant to the professional wrestler Roddy Piper.

In 2003, Jonny became a competitor in “Survivor: Pearl Islands” and reached third place. However, host Jeff Probst called Jonny the greatest lie in “Survivor” history when he fabricated a story that his grandmother had died. Probst also commented on how he was despicable and a jackass. Despite this, Jonny’s net worth increased thanks to the opportunity. After the competition, he was signed to Total Nonstop Action wrestling, in which he had a feud with AJ Styles. He then enlisted Lex Luger to help him get revenge on Styles. He also made a few non wrestling appearances in the next few years, before in 2007 becoming a host at the “Fox Reality Really Awards”, at which he was booed by the audience. This then caused him and Danny Bonaduce to have a confrontation, which they later joked about at the 2008 Reality Awards.

Fairplay was cast in “Survivor: Micronesia” in 2008, as part of an all-star cast. However, he requested to be voted off in the first episode so he could go home to his pregnant girlfriend. In 2010, he chose not to participate in “Survivor: Heroes vs. Villains” due to animosity between him and Probst.

The following year, he made an appearance in the wrestling promotion Dragon Gate USA. He also appeared in the television debut of WFX Wrestling. In 2013, he was inducted into the Xfinity “Survivor Hall of Fame”, becoming the only “Survivor” Hall of Fame member who was not a winner. He was also seen as part of West Coast Wrestling Connection. Thanks to these opportunities, his net worth continued to rise.

For his personal life, it is known that in 2005 Jonny married Michelle Deighton, who competed in “America’s Next Top Model” as well as WWE’s “Tough Enough”, and they have a daughter, however, they separated in 2011.
