Born in Auburndale, Wisconsin, Zimmermann started playing baseball at a young age. During his high school years at Auburndale High School, he was already playing for the school’s varsity team. Because of his versatility in the field, he played catcher, starting pitcher and even short stop. Later on, he continued his passion for the sport while attending the University of Wisconsin at Stevens Point.

In 2007, Zimmermann’s career in baseball began when he was drafted by the Washington Nationals in the second round of the MLB Draft. In his first year with the Nationals, playing for the Potomas Nationals and Harrisburg Senator, he immediately gained accolades, including being named to the Eastern League All-Star Team in July 2008, and becoming

Nationals pitcher of the year, as well as leading in wins, strike-outs and ERA. His early years in professional baseball helped establish his career and also his net worth.

Zimmermann subsequently played for the Washington Nationals for a total of seven years from 2009 to 2015. After playing as an amateur for a year, he was then brought to the professional league in 2009. Today, Zimmermann is still active in playing professional baseball. In 2015, Zimmermann signed a 5-year contract with the Detroit Tigers, and subsequently recorded his 1,000th career strikeout with the Tigers in 2017 during the game against the Houston Astros.
