Jordyn Wieber is a daughter and the third of four children of Rita, an emergency room nurse and exercise physiologist, and David Wieber, a director at a health-care subsidiary. She started gymnastics at age three, but then stopped and took dance classes. However, John Geddert selected her to join his Silverstars program, while in 2005 Wieber qualified to Level 10 in the Junior Olympic program, and a year later qualified for the international elite.
In February 2009 Wieber competed at the American Cup in Chicago, Illinois and won the gold medal in the all-around competition with a score of 60.200.
