Jorja had problems with overweight during his childhood, but later lost the extra pounds and even became a model after spending two years at Melbourne High School. She then went to study drama at the Lee Strasberg Institute in New York, the actor William Hickey was her mentor. Fox also worked as a candy stripper when she was a teenager.
Fox launched her career in 1989 when she made her debut in the neo-noir film called “The Kill-Off,” directed by Maggie Greenwald. Jorja had some minor film roles until she appeared in three episodes of “ABC Afterschool Special” in 1992, and in one episode of “Law & Order” in 1993. Jorja finally secured a bigger part in the series “Missing Persons” (1993-1994), in which she starred as Officer Connie Karadzic in 17 episodes.
