Kazuo Hirai was born on the 2nd December 1960, in Tokyo, Japan, and is an entrepreneur best known to the world as the President and CEO of the Sony Corporation, a position he has held since 1st April 2012. Also, Kazuo is a board member of the Sony subsidiary Sony Interactive Entertainment Inc. His career started in 1984.

Kazuo comes from a wealthy family; his father was a banker, and often brought Kazuo on his travels across the globe, including to the USA, Canada and various cities in his home country. Kazuo went to the American School located in Japan, after which he was a part of the Valley Park Middle School from 1973 until 1976. He then enrolled at the International Christian University, and graduated with a Bachelor of Liberal Arts degree in 1984, after which he was immediately hired by Sony Music Entertainment (Japan) Inc. as the general manager of international music for Japan. However, little by little he progressed and was appointed as head of the Sony Computer Entertainment Japan international business office in New York.
In the mid-1990s, Kazuo became a part of the computer and video game division of Sony, called Sony Computer Entertainment America; Kazuo needed only two years to finish his first video game. Since the 2000s, and a rapid development of the video game industry, both Kazuo`s career and net worth have only gone upward. With the release of games Sony PlayStation 2, such as “Ratchet & Clank”, SOCOM: U.S. Navy SEALs and Sly Cooper, among others, Kazuo has managed to retain and even increase profits of the company.
Thanks to his successful operations, Kazuo was further promoted to the position of vice- president of its corporate executive group in July 2006, and in October the same year, he was appointed President of Sony Computer Entertainment, which only increased his net worth. The following year his net worth increased further, when he assumed the position of President and Group CEO of SCEI, when Ken Kutaragi decided to retire.
His progression didn`t stop there, as in 2009 he became the Corporate Executive Officer and Executive Vice President of Sony Corporation, in which positions Kazuo was responsible for the development and eventual success of several Sony products, including VAIO personal computers, Xperia and Walkman mobile phones among others. He also became the Chairman of Sony Computer Entertainment in 2011, but in 2012 stepped down; he still remains a member of the board of directors.
On the higher level in Sony, he became Representative Corporate Executive Officer and Executive Deputy President of Sony Corporation on the 1st April 2011, and a year later he became President and Chief Executive Officer of the Sony Corporation, which only added a substantial amount to his net worth.
