Natassia’s mother Elka Zolot, was a former member of the punk band The Trashwomen. When Kreay was 10 years old, she was given her first video camera and started working on recording her raps. She attended Met West High School and there she had the opportunity to intern at a local radio station. She then transferred to Oakland High School, but was expelled for not attending her classes. She then went to Alameda High School and was expelled as well, after threatening a schoolmate. Kreay then went to Island High, and finished a year but then stopped attending classes. During her time away from school, the high school moved to a new location, and she wasn’t able to go back to it. At the age of 16, she worked on getting her career started and passed her GED test, and then obtained a laptop and started to improve her skills in making music videos. Eventually, she was noticed and given a scholarship by the Berkeley Digital Film Institute for two semesters. After finishing her studies, she moved to Los Angeles where she would start her music career.
Kreayshawn originally performed with the group White Girl Mob (WGM), whose members included her friends Lil Debbie and V-Nasty. They eventually disbanded in 2012, but during this time Kreay was already working on her own music, having released her first mixtape two years earlier, entitled “Kittys x Choppas”. She then released her first music video, “Bumpin Bumpin” but what would really become popular was her song “Gucci Gucci” which was released in 2011. It gained over three million views during its first three weeks of release, and drew the attention of several record labels, so Kreayshawn would soon sign for Columbia Records. She then directed a music video for the Red Hot Chili Peppers song “The Adventures of Rain Dance Maggie”; she was nominated during the 2011 MTV Music Video Awards for Best New Artist, and then worked on her first physical release entitled “Nattymari presents Kreayshawn and Sortahuman Murder in Memphis Vol. 1”. In 2012, she finally released “Somethin’ ‘Bout Krey”, her debut studio album, which featured artists such as 2 Chainz and former White Girl Mob members. She then worked on a few more songs for an upcoming EP. One of her most recent projects is a podcast entitled “Lost in Thot”.
