Kristi Yamaguchi is the daughter of Jim Yamaguchi, a dentist, and Carole, who was a medical secretary. She spent her childhood in Fremont, California with her two siblings. She received her education privately and then she matriculated from Mission San Jose High School, where she also began skating.

Kristy`s career began in the late 1980s, when she participated in the US Junior Championships, alongside Rudy Galindo, with the pair winning the gold medal. At the same competition, she also won the gold medal in singles. The two continued successfully through the years, winning the World Junior Championships held in Brisbane in 1988, andthe following year the senior titles in US Championships, and repeated the accomplishment in 1990, which increased her potential net worth..

Apart from her career with Galindo, Kristy has also had a successful career on her own; she won the gold medal at the World Championships in Munich in 1991, and repeated her success the following year, held in Oakland. Kristy`s potential net worth also increased when she won the gold medal at the Olympic Games in 1992 held in Albertville, Canada, after previously winning the US National championships.

After 1992, Kristy turned professional, and toured with Stars On Ice, which added a lot to her net worth. To speak further of her career, she worked as a commentator for the Winter Olympics in 2006 on the KNTV, a San Jose-based TV station. She has also published several books, including “Figure Skating For Dummies” (1997), “Pure Gold” (1997), and “Dream Big Little Pig” (2011), the sales of which have added a substantial amount to her net worth.

Thanks to her skills, Kristy has received several prestigious awards, including the Inspiration Award in 2008 given by the Asian Excellence Awards, and Sonja Henie Award from the Professional Skaters Association, also in 2008.
