Kym has been dancing since she was just three years old. She started ballroom dancing when she was a teenager, and after years of dedicated practice, she won second place at the Australian Dancesport Championships in 1998, and was then also a finalist in the U.K. Ballroom Championships at Blackpool. She has appeared in numerous events including “Burn the Floor” dance production, performing at Elton John’s 50th birthday party, and dancing in the “Strictly Ballroom” film. However, in 2001, Johnson decided to retire from competitions but continued to dance on stage. Her television breakthrough was when she appeared as a professional in the TV show “Dancing with the Stars “. In 2004 and 2005 she appeared in the first three seasons of the show in Australia, in which she and her partner were the winning couple of the second season. After this, she also made a brief appearance in the 4th series of “Dancing with the Stars Grand Final” performing with musician Alex Lloyd. During 2006, Kym appeared in “Australian Celebrity Survivor: Vanuatu” but was the first one to be voted out of the game. Still, her net worth was growing.
Later that year, she moved to the US to appear in season 3 of the US “Dancing with the Stars” program, in which she achieved great success. This led to Johnson touring across America following the TV show, but she was prevented from performing in every show due to an arm injury. However, Kym returned in season 4 and became the runner-up professional dancer of the season. She continued appearing in the show during the following four seasons, in which her partners were billionaire Mark Cuban, magician Penn Jillette, former NFL player Warren Sapp And, and actor David Alan Grier. In season 9, she and Donny Osmond were paired, and the two were crowned champions in November 2009, making Kym the only dance professional who has won this title in two different countries. In the following seasons, Johnson was partnered with actor David Hasselhoff, athlete Hines Ward, actor David Arquette, Jaleel White, Joey Fatone, Ingo Rademacher and others, but without further success.
Her more recent activity includes appearing on “The Celebrity Apprentice Australia” TV show in 2013, and becoming a judge on the Australian version of “Dancing with the Stars”, the same year.
When it comes to her personal life, Johnson was engaged to cricketer Shane Watson, but as of September 2015, she confirmed that she and her former “Dancing with the Stars” partner, businessman Robert Herjavec, are in a relationship. The couple became engaged in February 2016.
