It was when Larenz was nine years old and the whole family moved to California where you can probably find the best opportunities for a career in acting, that Larenz attended classes in a drama program at the Inner City Cultural Center, and really saw definite prospects when classmate Malcolm-Jamal Warner rose to fame after being cast in the sitcom “The Cosby Show” in 1984.
Larenz Tate started his acting career with performances in episodes of such TV series as “The Twilight Zone” (1985), “Hunter” (1987), “Amen” (1988), “21 Jump Street” (1989), “The Wonder Years” (1989), and “Matlock” (1989). Larenz collaborated once again with the Hughes brothers in 1995, during the production of the American crime drama “Dead Presidents”.
In 1996, Larenz Tate added a great sum to his net worth while performing in the American television sitcom “The Fresh Prince of Bel-Air”, in the episode “That`s No Lady, That`s My Cousin”.

What I look for in a script is the plot point and whether they're strong, obviously, or not, whether the characters are rich or not, and if I can do justice to the character or not. Some movies you look at and the script is so bad that no one can do anything with the script. I mean, that's probably why Denzel Washington turns down so much. It's like why go through all of the ups and downs of trying to have a phenomenal performance when the movie is just bad all around?

It's interesting, because I've never seen myself as a sex symbol. It's actually kind of cool that women have taken to me. Because now I have a whole different demographic when it comes to the audiences. I have women who come out and support my movies and that is a huge demographic for me, which is great because some actors don't have a female base at all.
