Larry Charles was born on the 1st December 1956, in Brooklyn, New York City, USA, and is a Primetime Emmy Award-winning writer, director, and producer, perhaps best known for writing the first five seasons of “Seinfeld” (1991 – 1994). He has also worked as a director of movies “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” (2006), “Brüno” (2009), and “The Dictator” (2012). Charles’ career started in 1980.
Have you ever wondered how rich Larry Charles is, as of early 2017? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that Charles’ net worth is as high as $100 million, an amount earned through his successful career as a film writer and director. In addition to writing and directing, Charles also works as a producer, which has improved his wealth too.
Larry Charles Net Worth $100 Million
Larry Charles grew up in Trump Village in Brooklyn, and went to the John Dewey High School. He later studied at the Rutgers University in New Jersey but dropped out to pursue his career in comedy.
Charles performed at various clubs as a stand-up comedian before getting a job as a writer for the TV series called “Fridays”, contributing 53 episodes from 1980 to 1982. From 1989 to 1990, Larry wrote 19 episodes of “The Arsenio Hall Show”, while in 1991 he became a writer and producer of the cult show “Seinfeld”, which won several Golden Globes and Primetime Emmy Awards. Larry wrote 28 episodes until 1994 and worked as an executive producer or producer of 66 episodes. The success of the series made him a multi-millionaire and also secured him two Primetime Emmy Awards.
From 1996 to 1997, Charles wrote 19 episodes of the Golden Globe-winning series “Mad About You” starring Helen Hunt and Paul Reiser, while he also served as a producer of 46 episodes. Larry then worked as a writer and producer in the Primetime Emmy Award-winning animated series “Dilbert” (1999-2000), and from 2004 to 2011 Charles produced 32 episodes of Larry David’s Golden Globe Award-winning “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, which increased his net worth to a large degree. Larry also wrote four episodes and produced 24 episodes of the Golden Globe Award-winning series “Entourage” (2004-2009). Most recently, he created the series called “The Comedians” (2015), and so far the show has received two Primetime Emmy nominations.
Larry Charles started his directing career in 2000 with “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, directing 17 episodes until 2011. He then filmed “Masked and Anonymous” (2003) starring Bob Dylan, John Goodman, and Jessica Lange, and made the Oscar-nominated comedy “Borat: Cultural Learnings of America for Make Benefit Glorious Nation of Kazakhstan” (2006) with Sacha Baron Cohen – the movie was a major hit, earning over $260 million worldwide.
In 2008, Larry directed the documentary called “Religulous”, and a year later teamed up with Cohen again and filmed “Brüno”, which grossed $138 million. In 2012, he and Cohen made “The Dictator” which earned around $180 million worldwide, and most recently, Larry directed the comedy called “Army of One” (2016) starring Nicolas Cage, Russell Brand, and Wendi McLendon-Covey.
Charles also occasionally works as an actor; he appeared in four episodes of “Seinfeld” (1991-1993), in an episode of “Entourage” (2004), “The Comedians” (2015), “Special Look” (2015), and most recently in “Army of One” (2016).
Regarding his personal life, Larry Charles’ most intimate details are unknown, although he has admitted to several relationships but none serious enough to make a permanent commitment.
