Larry Kramer, born on the 25th of June 1935, is an American author and playwright, who became famous for his works including “Women in Love”, “Faggots”, and “The Normal Heart”. He also became known for his active participation in fighting for the rights of the LGBT community.

Kramer’s career started at 23 when he got a job at Columbia Pictures working as a teletype operator. In 1988, Kramer was diagnosed with Hepatitis B leading him to need a liver, but additionally it was also discovered that he had HIV, making it hard for him to earn a place in the liver transplant list. His diagnosis with HIV and the hardships he faced with the disease highly affected the themes in his works.
Kramer’s HIV diagnosis helped inspire the novel “Faggot”, and the books “Reports from the Holocaust: The Story of an AIDS Activist”. His condition and his way of life also led him to become an active fighter for gay rights and people diagnosed with HIV. He became the cofounder of Gay Men’s Health Crisis, and AIDS Coalition to Unleash Power.
