Born in Bristol, Pennsylvania, Holly came from a very prominent family, with her mother Michael Ann a former professor and an art historian, and her father Grant a screenwriter and a professor as well. The family travelled constantly, but Holly mostly spent her years growing up in Geneva, New York. Holly attended Geneva High School and later Sarah Lawrence College, graduating with a degree in English.

Holly’s career started in a minor appearance in the television show “Hill Street Blues”. Soon after, in 1986, she was cast in the popular soap opera “All My Children”, playing the role of Julie Rand Chandler for four seasons. In 1992 she was cast in another television show – “Picket Fences” – her role as Deputy Sheriff Maxine Stewart was well received among audiences and her role catapulted her to success. Her television projects not only made her well known but also helped her net worth tremendously.

Another project that made Holly a big name in Hollywood was when she became part of the movie “Dumb & Dumber” in 1994. Her role as Mary Swanson, the love interest of Jim Carrey’s character Lloyd, became a favourite among fans. The hit movie not only made her a very wealthy woman, it also signalled Holly’s transition to movies.

Among Holly’s other memorable movie performances are “Dragon: The Bruce Lee Story”, “Sabrina” and “Any Given Sunday”. After several guest appearances in various television shows, Holly came back to the small screen joining the cast of NCIS, playing the role of NCIS Director Jenny Shepard. She played the role from 2005 until 2008 and sporadically in 2011, 2012, 2014 and 2015. Some of her most recent work includes the movie “February” back in 2015, and she is part of the show “Motive” up until today.

Today, Holly is still thriving as an actress, having made over 50 movies and hundreds of appearances on television over the past 30 years. Her success has made her one of the most sought after actresses in Hollywood and has immensely increased her net worth.

Holly is also one of the founders of the charity “‘A’ Fund”, dedicated to her brother Alexander who died at the age of 14. The charity supports students at Hobart and William Smith Colleges.

In terms of her personal life, Holly was once married to actors Danny Quinn(1991-93) and Jim Carrey(1996-97) but both ended in divorce. Later in 2000, she met Italian Francis Greco and they married in 2001, but divorced in 2014. Holly now resides in Canada with her three children from her marriage to Greco.

1[on her worst audition] Sister Act (1992). I get this call: they're having trouble finding the young, mousy nun, so they want me to go in. "But isn't this singing?" I asked. "Yes, they know you don't sing". I go in, read the scene, it goes well and the director says to me, "Will you sing a song for us?" I said, "Sing? I don't sing". "No, no, no, Lauren, it doesn't matter that you don't sing. We just want to see if you look like you can sing - do the body movements and the facial expressions and then we'll dub it", So, I closed my eyes and belled out "Happy Birthday" as loud as I could and I tried to put all the feeling and body movement into it. When I finished, I opened my eyes. I've never seen such looks of horror as there were on their faces. Then, I heard someone in the back of this group say, "Wow, that girl's got balls". It was horrible.
