Hutton grew up in Charleston, but after her parents divorced early in her childhood, her mother remarried and she moved with her and her stepfather to Tampa, Florida, taking her stepfather’s surname of Hall. She attended Chamberlain High School in Tampa and later enrolled at the University of South Florida. She then moved to New York City where she worked as a Playboy bunny, before relocating to New Orleans to enroll in Newcomb College at Tulane University, graduating with a BA in 1964.

After completing her education, Hutton returned to New York City to pursue a modeling career. She changed her name back to Lauren Hutton and went on to establish herself as a successful model, cover girl and commercial spokesperson. In 1973 she significantly boosted her net worth by signing a contract worth $250,000 a year with Revlon cosmetics, to represent the Ultima II brand, being the first model to negotiate such a major cosmetics deal, which made her a recognized figure in the fashion world.

Hutton’s ten-year tenure with Revlon resulted in another contract with the brand in the early ’90s, this time to represent a collection of corrective moisturizing treatments known as Results. Around the same time, she served as a runway model for Calvin Klein, and later became a model and brand ambassador for David Jones department store. By the end of the ’90s, Hutton had become a model of legendary status, having appeared on the cover of Vogue a record 26 times. Her net worth continued to rise.

In 2000 she launched her own brand of cosmetic products for mature women, called “Lauren Hutton’s Good Stuff”. A few years later at the age of 61, she posed nude for an issue of the magazine Big. In 2008, she appeared in the lookbook for Mary-Kate and Ashley Olsen’s clothing line called The Row. In 2010, Henson Independent Properties (HIP) signed her as a global licensing agent for a new lifestyle brand focused on women over 40. The same year she appeared as a guest judge on the acclaimed fashion designer reality television show “Project Runway”. The following year she became the house model for the Alexis Bittar jewelry brand and appeared in the Club Monaco’s ad campaign. As of 2014, Hutton has worked for the IMG Models agency, being one of their “Special Bookings” models. All contributed to her wealth.

Aside from her modeling career, Hutton has also been involved in acting. She made her film debut with the 1968 “Paper Lion” and went on to appear in a number of films during the next decade, such as in “The Gambler” and “Someone’s Watching Me”. The ’80s saw her starring as the wealthy adulteress Michelle in “American Gigolo”, and taking numerous supporting roles in other projects. In the mid-’90s she portrayed Linda Fairchild in the CBS soap opera “Central Park West”, and hosted her own late-night talk show for Turner Original Production, entitled “Lauren Hutton and…”. In 2009 she starred as the head of a marketing company KC in the film “The Joneses”, and her last film appearance was in the 2013 short film “Walking Stories”. Hutton’s involvement in the film and television industry has additionally improved her status and net worth.

In her private life, Hutton has never married, however, she was involved in a long relationship with her manager Bob Williamson, who died in the ’90s.

Hutton is also known for her hobby of riding motorcycles. In 2000 she became a member and the first vice-president of the Guggenheim Museum Motorcycle Club, which included several other names from the acting world. The same year she crashed, suffering multiple fractures to her legs, arms, sternum and ribs, a punctured lung, plus numerous cuts and bruises.
