Leon James DeWyze, Jr., born on the 2nd January 1986, is an American songwriter and artist, who became popular after winning the ninth season of the TV singing competition, “American Idol”.

Born in Mount Prospect, Illinois, DeWyze is the son of Kathleen and Leon Sr. and has three siblings. DeWyze attended St. James Catholic Elementary School and later Mount Prospect Illinois high school from which he was expelled because of bad behavior, so then transferred to Forest View Alternative School; even though he tried to straighten up, he still wasn’t able to graduate, but later obtained his GED.
DeWyze singing career started when he was 17 years old when he was discovered performing while at a house party. Immediately he was signed to an independent recording label WuLi Records, and formed a group named “Lee DeWyze Band”. He was able to release two albums under this label, “So I’m Told” in 2007 and “Sumberland” in 2010, and performed well locally. Slowly his career is started growing along with his wealth.
DeWyze was also able to record a promotional CD for Square One Organic, a baby food company, which became a local success, even leading his band to perform in various places in his hometown, and later turning him into a local celebrity. However, though his singing career was helping his income, he still worked other jobs such as being a paint salesman and a trading floor clerk, just to make ends meet.
In 2009, DeWyze auditioned for the popular television show and singing competition “American Idol”. He made it through the auditions and later into Hollywood week. In May of 2010, after many months in the competition, he was crowned the champion and the title of being the American Idol, plus a recording deal. Some of his memorable performances in the show include “Beautiful Day” and “Hallelujah”.
After winning the competition, he signed with 19 Entertainment and RCA Records, and later released his album “Live it Up”. His new feat and new album tremendously helped his net worth and career.
After a year, DeWyze was released from his record label. In 2013 he was able to sign a new deal with Vanguard Records and later released his new album “Frames”. His song “Blackbird Song”, was featured in the show ‘Walking Dead”, and was well received by the fans of the show.
Today, DeWyze is still active in singing and performing, doing tours and concerts in various states. He also participates in different charitable works like Gateway for Cancer and Covenant Kids Foundation. Recently, he released an album entitled “Oil and Water”.
In terms of his personal life, DeWyze has been married to actress and model Jonna Walsh since 2012.
