Raised in Providence, Lincoln is the son of American politician John Chafee. He attended Providence Country Day School and Phillips Academy, and continued his education at Brown University to earn Bachelor of Arts degree in classics in 1975. He went on to attend the Montana State University Farrier School in Bozeman, and then started his career as a farrier at harness racetracks. After seven years of working as a farrier, Lincoln entered politics as he was elected to the Rhode Island Constitutional Convention as a delegate in 1985. The very next year, he was elected to the Warwick City Council and re-elected in 1988. In 1990, he ran for the first time for Warwick Mayor but unfortunately lost in the election.
However, Lincoln’s political career reached a new height as he was elected as Warwick’s mayor in 1992. At the time, he was the first Republican mayor in Warwick after 32 years, and was re-elected in 1994, 1996 and 1998. During this time, he made conservation, wise growth and environmental protection priorities, being widely noted for his “Greenwich Bay Initiative” which managed to extend sewer service to the environmentally sensitive areas of the city, making it one of the best local watershed programs in the States. Preceded by his father John Chaffee, Lincoln went on to serve as the United States Senator from 4 November 1999 until 3 January, 2007.
After his tenure as the United States Senator, Lincoln announced that he was no longer affiliated to the Republican Party and changed to Independent, and for two years between 2007 and 2009, Lincoln went into a political hiatus. However, he regained his activity in politics shortly, and was elected as the Governor of Rhode Island in 2011, and served in the post until 6 January, 2015; in 2013, Lincoln shifted his affiliation to the Democratic Party from Independent. Obviously, serving in a more reputable and higher post as a US politician has been significant in amassing wealth for Lincoln over time.
As for his personal life, Lincoln is now a father of three children, having been married to Stephanie Birney Danforth since 1990. Lincoln puts his religious belief in episcopalism. For now, Lincoln enjoys his career as one of the most successful politicians in America while his present net worth of $50 million caters to his and his family’s daily lives.
