Price grew up in a suburb of New Orleans. As a child, he was interested in music and played trumpet and piano alongside singing in the church’s gospel choir. He became famous when Art Rupe, the owner of the Los Angeles based Specialty Records heard him play ‘’Lawdy Miss Clawdy’’, and wanted to sign a record deal with Price. However, Price didn’t have his own band, thus they collaborated with Dave Bartholomew in order to find suitable band mates for Lloyd.
