Manu Ginóbili Net Worth $45 Million
Ginobili comes from a basketball family, with his two brothers being professional players and his father being a former player and basketball coach. Thus, Ginobili learned to play at an early age. He started to play professionally in 1995 in the Argentine Basketball League, as a member of the Andino Sport Club team. The following year he joined Estudiantes Bahia Blanca of the Argentinian League, in his home town. In 1998 the player moved to Italy to play for Basket Viola Reggio Calabria for two seasons, the team being promoted from the Italian 2nd Division to the Italian 1st division and Manu being named the Italian League Player of the Year.
Manu Ginóbili entered the NBA Draft in 1999, with the San Antonio Spurs selecting him as a 57th overall pick in the second round of the draft. In the meantime, he also continued to play in Italy, signing with Virtus Kinder Bologna team and winning the 2001 Italian Championship, the 2001 Euroleague and Italian Cups in 2001 and 2002, and being named the Italian League MVP two times as well as Euroleague Finals MVP. He was also part of the Italian League All-Star Game three times while with Kinder. Prior to joining the San Antonio Spurs, Ginobili led Argentina into the FIBA World Basketball Championships in Indianapolis in 2002, finishing in second place.
The player then joined the Spurs, who signed him to a one-year $2.9 million contract in 2002, increasing his net worth considerably. During his first season with the team, Ginobili played only a few games, due to an injury, but he still won the Western Conference Rookie of the Month and was named to the All-Rookie Second Team. During the play-offs he helped the team to win their second championship. He later won his first golden medal with Argentina at the 2004 Athens Olympics Basketball Tournament.
The player entered his next season with the Spurs, and although his statistics advanced during the regular season as well as in playoffs, the team wasn’t as successful as the previous year. He then signed a six-year $52 million contract with the Spurs, which greatly contributed to his wealth. His third season was considered his best one; he significantly increased his scoring and led the team to win its third championship, becoming its second leading scorer, behind Tim Duncan. Around this time, Ginobili won his second gold medal in Argentina. During his fourth season with the Spurs, he suffered foot and ankle injuries which manifested itself in his statistics. Although he had largely recovered by the playoffs, the team didn’t manage to enter the championship. However, the Spurs won their fourth championship in the 2007 playoffs, with a dynamic contribution from Ginobili, whose statistics was similar to that of his successful third season. The next season saw the Argentine reaching career high averages and winning the 2008 Sixth Man Award and the All-NBA third team. He led the team in points and assists in the playoffs, however, the Spurs didn’t make it to the championship. Due to an injury, Ginobili was largely inactive during the following season and completely missed the 2009 playoffs, and the team failed to enter the final once again.
In 2010 the Spurs re-signed him to a three-year $39 million contract extension, lifting the player’s wealth once again. In the next 2011 season, Ginobili was named to the All-Star team and to the All-NBA third team. The Spurs came to the Western Conference Finals and then lost. The same was with the 2012-13 season. Ginobili again re-signed with the Spurs, to a two-year $14.5 million contract extension, and went on to score season-high points, finishing third in the voting in Sixth Man of the Year award. He suffered an injury again, which decreased his statistics. However, he tied the record for most wins in the play-offs history and led the team to win the 2014 Championship, his fourth one. He re-signed with the Spurs in 2015 and after suffering an injury which resulted in surgery early in 2016, Ginobili missed several games. He returned in March.
In his private life, Ginobili has been married to Argentine Marianela Orono since 2004; they have twins.
