Quinn attended Ossining High School in New York, and upon matriculating in 1977, she enrolled in New York University, graduating in 1981. While attending university, Quinn performed in various television commercials, such as for McDonald’s, Country Time Lemonade, Clearasil and Campbell’s Soup. She also worked at the college station WNYU, and later became an intern at New York’s major radio station, WNBC Music Radio, where she learned about a new venture of former WNBC’s program director Bob Pittman – a cable channel called MTV. After being encouraged to audition for a role at the new network as a VJ, she went for it and became an MTV VJ, the position she would hold for a decade, becoming one of the iconic five original MTV VJs, along with Mark Goodman, Nina Blackwood, Alan Hunter and JJ Jackson. Her popularity and net worth were certainly boosted.

Being one of the original faces and voices of MTV, Quinn was able to host the nation’s first music television, and gain great experience and knowledge about the most popular music and artists of the time. She hosted programs such as “MTV Prime with Martha Quinn”, “Martha’s Greatest Hits” and “Rockline”, establishing a large fan base and accumulating a significant net worth. Quinn’s ten-year tenure on MTV was noted by Rolling Stone magazine, whose readers voted her “MTV’s Best-Ever VJ”. Also, Allure Magazine referred to the ‘80s decade as “the Martha Quinn years”. Quinn’s popularity reached such a level that musicians Mojo Nixon & Skid Roper recorded a song called “Stuffin’ Martha’s Muffin”.

After her career on MTV came to an end in 1991, she went on to make a number of television appearances. Then in 1994 she hosted the television show “Star Search”, and served as a bi-weekly correspondent on “The Early Show” in 1999. Around this time, she was also a featured spokesperson for Neutrogena. All added to her wealth.

Back in the ’80s, she made a cameo appearance in an episode of the short-lived television sitcom “E/R”, and appeared in the films “Dangerous Curves”, “Tapeheads” and “Eddie and the Cruisers II: Eddie Lives!”. The year 1990 saw her making an appearance in the short-lived sitcom “The Bradys”, a continuation of the popular “Brady Bunch”, after which she appeared in the 1992 film “Bad Channels”. Quinn’s acting career additionally improved her popularity and her net worth.
