Meghan is the daughter of an African-American mother, Doria Ragland, who works as a psychology therapist and is also a yoga instructor, while her father is Thomas W. Markle, who is a movie lighting director and has won an Emmy Award in his career. She is of Dutch and Irish ancestry from her father’s side.

She went to private schools throughout her education; when she was five she was enrolled at Hollywood Little Red Schoolhouse and after that at Immaculate Heart High School, a Catholic school for girls located in Los Angeles. After matriculating, Meghan enrolled at Northwestern University, from which she graduated with a Bachelor of Arts degree in theater and international studies.

Before her first acting role, Meghan attended a calligraphy course and had several calligraphy contracts to support herself, but then recorded her first acting role, as Jill in the soap opera “General Hospital” in 2002. She continued with one-time appearances in several TV series, then in 2005 made her film debut in the romantic comedy “A Lot Like Love”, starring Ashton Kutcher, Amanda Peet and Taryn Manning. In 2010 she made her breakthrough with the role of Megan in the romantic drama “Remember Me”, with Robert Pattinson, Emilie de Ravin and Caitlyn Rund in the lead roles, and the following year was chosen for the role of Rachel Zane in the TV drama series “Suits” (2011-2017), and so far has appeared in 102 episodes of the highly acclaimed series, which has considerably increased her wealth. Thanks to her exposure in the series, Meghan received wider attention from producers and directors, which resulted in new notable roles, portraying Jamie in the crime-comedy “Horrible Bosses”  with Jennifer Aniston, Jason Sudeikis and Jason Bateman, then starred in the romantic comedy “When Sparks Fly” in 2014, while in 2016 she was the lead star of the romantic comedy “Dater’s Handbook”, next to Kristoffer Polaha and Jonathan Scarfe, all of which added to her wealth.

Meghan has had other interests besides acting; from 2014 to 2017 she was the editor in chief of the lifestyle blog The Tig, and collaborated with Canadian clothing company Reitmans, to design and release a women’s fashion work-wear line priced lower than usual for such pieces.

Regarding her personal life, since 2016 Meghan has been in a relationship with Prince Harry Windsor, the son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana. Previously, she was married to actor Trevor Engelson from 2011 until 2013.

Meghan is well-known for her philanthropic activities; in 2016 she joined World Vision Canada as its Global Ambassador, and traveled to Rwanda in support of the Clean Water Campaign. Meghan is also an advocate of the United Nations Entity for Gender Equality and the Empowerment of Women, and has served as a Counsellor for the charity One Young World.

1What's funny is I probably still have some calligraphy business cards floating out in the world, and I can't wait for someone to call me in a month or something, and say, 'Can you do these for my son's Bar Mitzvah?'
2Traveling gives you some perspective of what the rest of the world is like. I think that having the courage to step out of the norm is the most important thing.
3My God, I think about way back in the day when we were running around in Mary Janes and Doc Martens, that whole 90210-inspired look. I'm glad that's long gone.
4I've always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well. What it evolved into was my pseudo-waitressing job when I was auditioning. I didn't wait tables. I did calligraphy for the invitations for, like, Robin Thicke and Paula Patton's wedding.
5I had always been the theater nerd at Northwestern University. I knew I wanted to do acting, but I hated the idea of being this cliché - a girl from L.A. who decides to be an actress.
6My very first audition was for 'Hot Girl #1' in some movie.
7Every day after school for 10 years, I was on the set of 'Married... with Children,' which is a really funny and perverse place for a little girl in a Catholic school uniform to grow up.
8I am a California girl, born and raised, so flip-flops and cutoff shorts are my go-to look. An easy Angeleno uniform, so to speak. But for my role on 'Suits,' I'm dressed in Alexander McQueen, Tom Ford, and Prada almost every day. And therein lies the difference. For work, I wear art; in real life, I wear clothes.
9I grew up with that farm-to-table dining before it was sweeping the nation. I do think there's some value to really throwing yourself into food and embracing where it comes from.
10When I get ready to go out, it's half hour and we're out of the door. I don't want to waste time getting ready: I want to go and have fun.
11Food makes travel so exceptional, because you get to taste what it's actually supposed to taste like. To eat the real Pad Thai or finally have a proper curry is something pretty amazing.
12At the end of the day, if the guy is going to write the girl a letter, whether it's chicken scratch or scribble or looks like a doctor's note, if he takes the time to put pen to paper and not type something, there's something so incredibly romantic and beautiful about that.
13Barcelona is one of the best cities in the world. I love it there. I love Big Sur. It's stunning and you get a therapeutic experience there. The drive up the coast is one of the most beautiful I've ever done. Also, Hong Kong. I could easily live there!
14Definitely working on 'Deal or No Deal' was a learning experience, and it helped me to understand what I would rather be doing.
15I think so much of what we learn when we get older is being comfortable in our own skin and learning what looks good, and not being so trend-centric.
16I had always been the theater nerd at Northwestern University. I knew I wanted to do acting, but I hated the idea of being this cliché - a girl from L.A. who decides to be an actress. I wanted more than that, and I had always loved politics, so I ended up changing my major completely, and double-majoring in theater and international relations.
17I'm from L.A., so I'm used to seeing people in sunglasses and flip-flops. There's something so romantic about a man in a scarf and a knitted hat.
18I went to an all-girls' Catholic school for, like, six years during the time when kids actually had handwriting class. I've always had a propensity for getting the cursive down pretty well.
19I do think there's some value to really throwing yourself into food and embracing where it comes from.
20My dad's a lighting director. Growing up in Hollywood, I was around the entertainment industry all the time. I knew I'd end up in show business in some capacity, eventually.
21I always want off-the-beaten-path, Anthony Bourdain-inspired travel.
22For work I get so dolled up that it's nice to wear boyfriend jeans and a sweater.
23Catty is not cool. I can't think of anything less becoming than a man who talks about people behind their backs.
24I'm a California girl, right? I grew up with that farm-to-table dining before it was sweeping the nation.
25I would love to do anything from a really gritty, interesting, indie type film, to that commercial, bigger stuff.
1Counts American businesswoman and network executive Bonnie Hammer as a major mentor for her career both on and off screen.
2Her paternal half-sister Samantha Grant is 16 years older.
3Runs her own food blog website "The Tig" which she launched in May 2014 for those with a discerning palate and hunger for food, travel, fashion & beauty. The website name was inspired by the Italian red wine "Tignanello".
4Is an avid foodie whose culinary skills were weaved into her character Rachel's homely skills in Suits (2011).
5In a relationship with Prince Harry Windsor, son of Prince Charles and Princess Diana, and grandson of Queen Elizabeth II. 'Royal' reporter Camilla Tominey of the UK's Sunday Express broke the story.
6Separated from her husband of 20 months Trevor Engelson. [May 2013]
7She was born on the same day as her Suits (2011) co-star Abigail Spencer: August 4, 1981.
8Daughter of Thomas W. Markle, director of photography on Married with Children (1987).
9Her mother is African American and her father is of Dutch and Irish ancestry.
10Attended Northwestern University where she majored in Theatre and International Relations. After graduating, she worked for the U.S Embassy in Buenos Aires.
11For a scene in A Lot Like Love (2005), the 2nd A.D. had to teach her how to drive stick-shift, just an hour before filming.
