Meryl grew up in West Bloomfield, Michigan, with her younger brother Clayton, the daughter of Cheryl and Paul D. Davis, and started to skate on ice when she was five years old at the local lake in winter. She was a single skater, but three years later she started ice dancing, reaching the Midwestern sectionals before deciding to focus on ice dancing. Meryl went to the Wylie E. Groves High School, but while in elementary she had problems with reading, as she was diagnosed with dyslexia. She still matriculated form high school, and enrolled at the University of Michigan, which she still attends, majoring in cultural anthropology, while also studying the Italian language.
As early as 1997, she teamed up with Charlie White, and they began their dominance, as in their first season, they won the silver medal at the Junior Olympics. Until 2006 when they became seniors, Meryl and Charlie won several medals in competitive events, which only encouraged them to continue to work together. Their first medal as seniors came in 2007 at the US Championships, finishing third, which only increased Meryl`s net worth. Their peak began in 2009, when they won US National Championships, and they repeated that success every year until 2014, adding a substantial amount to her net worth.

The pair also had success in World Championships; winning gold medals in 2011 in Moscow, and 2013 in London, while taking the silver medal home in 2010 in Turin and 2012 in Nice.
Furthermore, they won three gold medals at the Four Continents Championships, in 2009 in Vancouver, 2011 in Taipei, and their third in 2013 in Osaka.
The two remain the longest lasting dance team in the United States, initially teaming up in 1997.
