Over the next few years, Michael continued to expand his skills, working as a session recording drummer from the 1980s to the 1990; in 1993 he became the drummer of the rock band Tidal Force, and also wrote songs for them. In 1999 he founded the record label 2KSounds, which became one of the first record companies to promote music through the internet. The label would soon partner with Virgin Records, and Michael would become the president of the Record division. His net worth increased significantly over the years.

Around this time, Blakey also founded three other promotional and production companies including Platinum Records.
