Michael Flatley was born on the 16th July 1958, in Chicago, Illinois USA of Irish descent. He is an Irish-American choreographer and dancer, who is probably best recognized for his appearances in a number of Irish dance shows, such as “Lord Of The Dance”, and “Riverdance”, among others. He is also a flautist, known for the flute album “On A Different Note” (2011). His career has been active since 1978.
Have you ever wondered how rich Michael Flatley is, as of mid- 2016? According to authoritative sources, it has been estimated that the total size of Michael’s net worth is as high as $300 million, which has been accumulated through his successful involvement in the entertainment industry as a flautist and professional dancer. Additional to those, he has appeared in a number of TV shows, which have also increased his net worth.
Michael Flatley Net Worth $300 Million
Michael Flatley spent his childhood with four siblings in the South Side of Chicago, the son of Michael and Eilish, migrants from Ireland. His mother as well as his grandmother were champions in dancing, so under the influence of mother, he began attending dancing classes at the Dennehy School of Irish Dance when he was 11 years old. By the time he was 17 years-old b, he had won a title at the World Irish Dance Championships.
Michael was introduced to the professional dance stage in 1978, when he became a member of the touring group Green Fields of America, performing and promoting Irish dances in America. He was a part of the group for only a year, and then became a part of the Irish band The Chieftains, touring until 1989.
In the 1990s, he created Riverdance, a stage performance of traditional Irish dances, with his friend and colleague Jean Butler. They toured throughout the USA in the first half of 1990s, until Michael left the show in 1995, stating creative differences as the main reason. Nevertheless, while the show lasted his net worth increased by a large margin, thanks to the immense popularity of the show. After he left Riverdance, Michael started Lord of the Dance, a stage musical which used Irish music as its core, and Michael performed in and with it at stadiums and arenas, touring until 2015 when he retired, and increasing his net worth by a large margin.
To speak further of his accomplishments, Michael also created the Irish dance show Celtic Tiger, and was responsible for creating other Irish dances, such as Feet of Flames. He also appeared in the TV show “Dancing With The Stars” in 2007, which added to his net worth. In addition to his career as a performer, he has also authored a book entitled “Lord of the Dance: My Story” published in 2006, which also added to his net worth.
His talents have won him a number of prestigious awards, including Entertainer of the Decade Award given by the Variety Club Of Ireland, Lifetime Achievement Award by The Irish Post Awards, and he was inducted into the Irish America Hall of Fame. Furthermore, he received the Irish Dancing Commission Fellowship award in 2001, and the same year he became a Fellow of the American Irish Dance Teachers’ Association. In 2004, Michael was awarded the famed Ellis Island Medal of Honor.
Speaking about his personal life, Michael Flatley has been married to dancer Niamh O’Brien since October of 2006; the couple has a son. Previously, he was married to Beata Dziąba from 1986 to 1997.
