In the middle of 1968, after promoting some concerts in the Miami area, he created the Miami Pop Festival, the largest at that time, which took 80,000 people to Hallandale Beach to watch the acts like Jimi Hendrix, Steppenwolf and The Mothers of Invention. In August 1969, he organized the legendary Woodstock Festival with Artie Kornfeld in order to finance not only the social movements of that time, but also his recording studio MediaSounds. Michael subsequently appeared in many scenes of the documentary film “Woodstock – Three Days of Peace, Love and Music” which won an Academy Award in 1970. Lang also produced the festivals including Woodstock ’94 with partners Roberts, Rosenman and co-producer John Scher as well as Woodstock ’99 alongside John Scher and Ossie Kilkenny. The organization had contracts with such artists as Bruce Springsteen, Red Hot Chili Peppers, Alicia Keys, Christina Aguilera and many others. In 2009, the Woodstock Ventures Inc. (Michael Lang, Joel Rosenman and John P. Roberts) formed a joint venture with Sony Music Entertainment and launched Woodstock’s website, which tells the history of the original Woodstock Festival, and serves as a social network of live music. In Ang Lee’s film “Taking Woodstock” (2009), Michael is played by the actor Jonathan Groff.
