Michael is the son of James Addington McCaul, Jr. and his wife Frances Jane. He is of mixed ancestry, as he has English, German, and Irish blood in his veins. He went to Jesuit College Preparatory School of Dallas and after matriculation enrolled at San Antonio’s Trinity University. He obtained a Bachelor of Arts degree in history in 1984, and then enrolled at St Mary University, from which he earned his Juris Doctorate degree. His education didn’t stop there, as he was also a student at Harvard University, taking courses in the Kennedy School of Government.
Before his political aspirations surfaced, Michael would chase a career in law; he served as the Chief of Counterterrorism and National Security for Texas’s branch of the US Attorney’s office, which only increased his net worth, and then held a position at the Department of Justice’s Public Integrity Section. However, in 1998 he left and assumed a position as a Deputy Attorney General at the Texas Attorney General’s Office. For the next four years, Michael held the position, when he decided to start a career in politics.
In 2004 he campaigned for the spot in the U.S House of Representatives, and won over a number of others competing in the Republican primary for the newly created 10th District. In the first elections – he didn’t even have a Democrat opponent, since it was thought that the district was fully Republican. Michael continued his dominance as in 2010 he won 76% of the votes, and again in 2016, winning his seventh term with 57.3% of the votes.
