Miguel Indurain Larraya (Spanish pronunciation: [mi??el indu??ain la?ra?a]; born 16 July 1964) is a retired Spanish road racing cyclist.Indurain won five consecutive Tours de France from 1991 to 1995, the fourth, and last, to win five times. He won the Giro d'Italia twice, becoming one of only seven people in history to achieve the Giro-Tour double in the same season. He wore the race leader's yellow jersey in the Tour de France for 60 days. Since the revoking of Lance Armstrong's seven wins, he now holds the record for the most consecutive tour de france wins. Indurain's ability and physical size—1.88 m (6 ft 2 in) and 80 kg (176 lbs)—earned him the nickname "Miguelón" or "Big Mig". He was the youngest rider ever to win the Spanish amateur national road championship, when he was 18, at 20 the youngest rider to lead the Vuelta a España, and at 20 he won a stage of the Tour de l'Avenir.

Quote
1
There is something more important than winning. Dignity must come before everything, including victory in a race as important as the Tour. You can't treat people without respect.
2
If I had been born with an aggressive character, then maybe my palmares would have been longer. My strength was that I am more balanced and calmer than most other riders. I inherited that calm from my father, who was a farmer. You sow, you wait for good or bad weather, you harvest, but working is something you always need to do. The sense for responsibility I have got from my mother.
3
Merckx remains the greatest cyclist of all. He dared to strain his body to the extremes. When I was racing I thought: 'They are legends, I'm just Indurain.' I will never think I'm like Merckx or Hinault.
4
Cycling is harder than most sports. I can tell you, it really takes it out of you.
5
I am a happy man, because I can determine my own rhythm of life. No money in the world could persuade me to tie myself to something. I have earned enough to take it a bit easier now. To be free and to live a free life, that is the most beautiful thing there is.
