Mike went to Springfield High School, and was then selected by the Dodgers as the 19th pick in the 1976 MLB amateur draft. He signed with them immediately, and spent four seasons in the minors leagues building a name for himself and improving his game. In 1980 he debuted for the Dodgers and stayed with the team until 1992, winning two World Series in 1981 and then in 1988.
