Although born in Coloane, Ming`s parents divorced when she was still a toddler, and her mother moved her with her to Hong Kong, alongside Jonathan, who was Ming`s older brother. Her mother then married Soon Lim Yee, and they all migrated to the USA, finding a place in Harlem, New York, but later settling in Pittsburgh, Pennsylvania. There Ming attended high school, and during those years she gained working habits, as she was employed at her stepfather`s restaurant Chinatown Inn, which still operates today.

After matriculation, Ming enrolled at Carnegie Mellon University, graduating with a Bachelor of Fine Arts degree in Theatre.

Ming made her TV debut in the children show “Mister Roger`s Neighborhood” in 1985, and three years later was selected for the role of Lien Hughes in the soap opera “As the World Turns” (1988-1991). With the beginning of the 1990s, Ming became more involved in the acting world, making her film debut in “Rain Without Thunder”, and continued with roles in “Blind Spot” (1993), with Joanne Woodward and Laura Linney in lead roles, and “The Joy Luck Club” (1993), for which she received praise as did the whole film. The following year, Ming had a supporting role in the film “Street Fighter” with Jean-Claude Van Damme and Raul Julia as leads, and in 1995 she was selected for the role of Jing-Mei Chen in the TV series “ER”, in which she appeared until 2004, which only increased her net worth by a large margin.

Wen stayed active elsewhere too, and landed roles in such productions as “The Single Guy” (1995-1997), “One Night Stand” (1997) starring Wesley Snipes and Nastassja Kinski, while in 1998 she gave her voice to the title character Mulan in the Disney film, and repeated her role in the sequel “Mulan 2” in 2004. In 2001 she was the voice of Dr. Aki Ross in “Final Fantasy: The Spirits Within”, and a year later lent her voice to Mei-Ling from in “A Ribbon of Dreams”. All added to her net worth.

After her tenure in “ER” ended, Ming-Na continued with voice and screen roles, featuring in such series and films as “The Batman” (2004-2005), giving voice to Detective Ellen Yin, and in 2006 she appeared as Agent Lin Mei in the TV series “Vanished” (2006). From 2008 until 2014 she was the voice of Dr. Hirano in “Phineas and Ferb”, while in 2009 she was chosen for the role of Camille Wray in the TV series “SGU Stargate Universe” (2009-2011), which only increased further her net worth. Since 2013 she has been portraying Melinda May in Marvel`s TV series “Agents of S.H.I.E.L.D”, with Clark Gregg and Chloe Bennet among other stars, which has also added a substantial amount to her net worth.

Thanks to her skills, Ming-Na has received several prestigious nominations and awards, including Annie Award in category Outstanding Individual Achievement for Voice Acting by a Female Performer in an Animated Feature Production for her work on “Mulan” (1998), among others.

Regarding her personal life, Ming-Na has been married to Eric Michael Zee since 1995; the couple has two children. Previously she was married to film writer Kirk Aanes from 1990 until 1993, and was in a relationship with actor Brett Hinch from 1985 until 1989.
