1Following his most recent victory on New Year's Eve against Hong Man Choi, Mirko told an interviewer he planned to fight a couple more times in Japan before eventually returning to the UFC and then retiring at the end of this year.

However, Fedor had a hand injury and Nogueira stepped in to fight Mirko for the Interim Heavyweight Championship, which he won after submitting Mirko in the second round with an armbar.
