Muggsy Bogues spent his childhood in the Lafayette Court housing projects, brought up by his mother, as his father was jailed. He attended Dunbar High School in Baltimore, where he started playing basketball under Coach Bob Wade. During high school, Muggsy became one of the best players, and as a result he was named the No. 1 in the nation by “USA Today”. After matriculation, he enrolled at Wake Forest University, where he played basketball for the college team. During his college career, he became one of the best point guards of the Wake Forest University, the leader in assists and steals in the Atlantic Coast Conference.

Muggsy’s professional career began in 1987 when he entered the 1987 NBA Draft, in which he was selected as the 12th overall pick by the Washington Bullets, behind Reggie Miller and Horace Grant, among other talents of the draft, including David Robinson, and Scottie Pippen; at 63 inches (1m60cm) he became the shortest ever to play in the NBA. However, the following season, NBA held the expansion draft, as Miami Heat and Charlotte Hornets were brought into the league, and Muggsy, ended up in Charlotte, since he was left unprotected by the Bullets.

Muggsy spent ten years in Charlotte, during which time his net worth rose immensely, thanks to the contracts he signed with the Hornets. He became one of the most popular players of the team, although his numbers weren`t that high, as he only averaged just a little over 11 points per game, but he set the record for most steals and assists by a Hornets player. In 1997 he was traded to the Golden State Warriors, for which he played two seasons, before becoming a free agent in 1999. After that, he signed a contract with the Toronto Raptors, where he also spent two seasons, before eventually being traded to the New York Knicks, and later the Dallas Mavericks. However, his playing career actually ended in Toronto, as he didn`t play even one game in either New York or Dallas.

Muggsy will also be remembered as the shortest player in the NBA, nevertheless, that didn’t stop him from recording 39 blocks during his career, and earning his nickname from ‘stealing’. After he decided to retire, Muggsy launched a business career, managing a real estate agency until 2005. Afterwards, he returned to basketball as a coach of the WNBA team Charlotte Sting until 2007. In 2011 he became the head coach of the United Faith Christianity Academy basketball team, serving on that position until 2014, which also added to his net worth.

Muggsy has also made several notable film and TV appearances, including the one in film “Space Jam” (1995), alongside Michael Jordan and other basketball stars including Charles Barkley, Patrick Ewing, and Larry Bird among others, and in the TV series “Curb Your Enthusiasm”, all of which have added to his net worth.
