Nico’s father, Lewis Hernandez introduced him to boxing at the age of nine, which had a huge impact on Nico’s further career development as he competed in the National Junior Olympics in 2011 and 2012. His father also coached his best friend, Tony Losey and the duo achieved notable success with Nico winning his first 25 fights. He is widely known for his aggressive and quick boxing style, which he used in fights with sometimes older and bigger opponents.
