Oprah Gail Winfrey was born on 29 January 1954, in Kosciusko, Mississippi USA, of largely Liberian ethnic descent, and is an influential American media proprietor, actress, businesswoman, television and film producer, but is undoubtedly best known as a television talk show host.

So just how rich is Oprah Winfrey? According to sources, Oprah’s net worth is estimated to be an impressive $3 billion, with the main sources for her wealth coming from her appearances on television screens, particularly ‘The Oprah Winfrey Show’, which became the highest-rated talk show ever on US TV, and aired from 1986 until 2011.

Oprah Winfrey underwent poverty, abuse and prejudice during the early stages of her life, living largely with her grandmother while her single mother sought work, but also alternating separately with her mother and father. However, she won both an oratory and a beauty contest at East Nashville High School, and then studied communications at Tennessee State University, during which period she became the youngest news reader on local radio and TV stations.

Oprah Winfrey landed her first major television job in Chicago in 1983, when she worked on the morning talk show called “AM Chicago”. With Winfrey’s position as a host, the show went from having the lowest ratings to become one of the highest rated talk shows in Chicago at the time. The show was then renamed “The Oprah Winfrey Show” and began to be broadcast in 1986. At the beginning stage of the show, it was considered to be a tabloid talk show, but as the time went on it expanded to encompass such topics as politics, meditation, heart disease and many others. The show included interviews with various celebrity guests related to the discussed issues, as well as giveaways for the audience that significantly increased the ratings and popularity of the show. One of the longest running daytime television talk shows in history with over 4,000 episodes aired. “The Oprah Winfrey Show” has won 47 Daytime Emmy Awards in addition to many other nominations. In 1993, Oprah Winfrey hosted a memorable interview with Michael Jackson that attracted a viewership of 35.6 million people and became the fourth most watched event in the history of American television. Even though some celebrities such as Ludacris and 50 Cent have expressed their dissatisfaction with Oprah’s attitude towards their music, Winfrey remained a highly influential and beloved person in the industry.

In addition to the revenue collected from her talk show, Oprah has added significant amounts of money to her net worth by making appearances in a variety of movies including Steven Spielberg’s “The Color Purple” for which she was nominated for an Academy Award and a film adaptation of Toni Morrison’s novel “Beloved” of the same name. Oprah has also published several magazines, including “O, The Oprah Magazine” and in 2006 signed a contract to create a new radio channel called “Oprah Radio”. Oprah’s incredible ability to influence public opinions and successfully endorse consumer products has been named “The Oprah Effect”, which only proves that by naming her the most influential person in the world, Time magazine made the right choice. Oprah Winfrey is undoubtedly a beloved and welcomed face in the entertainment industry.

In her personal life, Oprah Winfrey has discussed several romatic liaisons in her early years, including one resulting in childbirth, but the baby was premature and died. She has stated that she never wanted children, as she would be a poor mother. Oprah Winfrey currently lives in a 42-acre estate in California called “The Promised Land” that has 14 bathrooms and 10 sophisticated fireplaces.

  1. Oprah deserves all of her success! She is a billionaire who earned every dollar the right way. She’s not like President Trump who kicks poor people out of housing complex. She is the opposite of him.

Her life story is beyond inspiring. If you read about her life, or watch her show, you’ll see that she came from really humble roots. Her Book Club list was my favorite growing-up. My mother and me would devour each of her books. I’m not as big a fan of Dr. Phil, but I adore the others that came from her show, especially Nate.
OAN is great, but I wish that her show was back on the air because we all need a big serving of inspiration in the world today! When I see what is going on with President Trump, it makes me want to get even more involved in making the world better. Bring it on Oprah!
