After retiring, he served as an executive for the Cleveland Browns until 1995, when he moved to become a front office executive with the Baltimore Ravens, then in 2002 he was named as the general manager of the Ravens, becoming the first African-American to hold that position in the NFL. The previous year, he earned his first Super Bowl ring when the Ravens defeated the New York Giants in Super Bowl XXXV, and got another ring in 2013 when the Ravens defeated the San Francisco 49ers in Super Bowl XLVII. He was also given the highest honor by the United States Sports Academy, the Eagle Award, thanks to his significant contributions to the sport internationally.
