Paul Bauchheit was born on the 7th November 1977, in Webster, New York State USA, and is a computer programmer and entrepreneur, best known to the world as the lead developer of Gmail and founder of the social network FriendFeed, among many other enterprises.

Paul hails from Webster, New York, however for his college education, Paul moved to Ohio, where he graduated from Case Western Reserve University in Cleveland, and earning an M.S degree in computer science from the same university.

His first job was at the multinational corporation and technology company Intel, but he left the firm to join Google, and became its 23rd employee. He was the main developer of Gmail, and later AdSense, before he left Google in 2006 to start his own on-line social network called FriendFeed. Launched in 2007, soon enough it brought the attention of the ever growing Facebook. This led to a deal between Paul and Facebook officials, in which Paul sold his company to Facebook, and got a working spot in the world’s most successful social network site, which increased Paul’s net worth to a large degree. However, he left Facebook in 2010, and became the newest partner of the investment firm Y Combinator, which further increased his net worth. Paul’s diversed into angel investments once he joined Y Combinator, and has since invested in more than 40 startup companies.

Paul has also contributed well over a billion dollars spread between several start-up companies – a so-called ‘angel investor’ – which should help improve his own net worth over time.
Regarding his personal life, Paul has been married to April since 2002; the couple reside in Polo Alto, California with their two children.

Paul Buchheit has won several honours, perhaps the most enduring won in 2011, is the The Economist Innovation Awards for the Computing and Telecommunications field.
