She played for the United States team in the Junior Solheim Cup, and was the AJGA Player of the Year in 2003. The following year, she won the LGPA Final Qualifying Tournament, and opted to turn professional at the age of 18.

She joined the LGPA Tour in 2005 and quickly became a top player there, the youngest winner of a multiple-round tournament in LGPA history, a record which she held until 2011. She also became the youngest and quickest player to reach $1 million LGPA career earnings. She won the NEC open on the Japan LGPA tour, and would earn a spot on the US Solheim Cup Team. She won the LGPA Rookie of the Year Award, but then had an unsuccessful 2006 season, although still earning a lot of money and her net worth continued to build. She rebounded in 2007 with two LGPA Tour titles, and finished third on the money list that year. In 2008, she would achieve a career-high four LGPA event wins, earning nearly $2 million during that time. Two years later, she would withdraw from the first event due to a thumb injury which was more severe than thought, and led her to miss out on more time, but returned to win the US Women’s Open, her first major. 2011 was less eventful for her with no tournament wins.

In 2012, Paula participated in the longest two-player playoff in LGPA Tour history at the Kingsmill Championship, facing off against Jiyai Shin – nine holes. She was unable to win any events during the season, but earned over $800,000, increasing her net worth further. She continued getting success in 2014, but fell outside the top 40 world rankings in 2015. She changed swing instructors, but her performance still slumped a little with only a fewevents with good performances, although ninth on the all-time LGPA career money list. Assisting her net worth, she has several endorsement deals with various companies such as Bridgestone Golf, Ricoh, and Citizen Watch Co.

For her personal life, it is known that Paula married pilot and Air Force veteran Derek Heath in 2014She also does charity work for The First Tee which helps junior golfers. She’s also donated scholarships to IMG Academy.
